When MLB free agency broke, the San Francisco Giants informed Ryan Vogelsong that he’d be placed on the back burner until they finished off some of their other moves. Now with just a few weeks until pitchers are to report to Spring Training, Vogelsong is without a deal. That lead to the Houston Astros discussing a deal with the veteran starter, though apparently the Giants aren’t going to let him go easily.
Reports surfaced suggesting Ryan Vogelsong and the ‘Stros were in deep contractual discussions just a few days ago, but now it’s being reported the Giants have returned the favor and could be the favorites for his services.

For what it’s worth, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN says the Astros have not been told they’re out of the running for Ryan Vogelsong at this point, though why would they as Vogey’s agent wants both teams bidding against each other.
Playing at AT&T Park for half of his games would be a much better alternative for Vogelsong in comparison to Minute Maid Park, though a two-year contract (which is apparently being offered by the Astros) would certainly beat out a one-year deal from San Francisco.
