Phillies Rumors: Jonathan Papelbon Trade Talks Still Alive

Jonathan Papelbon

The Philadelphia Phillies are doing what they can to trade closer Jonathan Papelbon and say that not only are trade talks involving the pitcher still alive, but they’re having discussions with more than one team.

That’s the word from CSN Philly:

The fact of the matter, according to sources, is that the talks are ongoing and have been for some time. As is the case in any negotiation, there have been ebbs and flows, but the talks have never ceased.

General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. confirmed as much Monday.

“Things are still alive,” he told CSNPhilly.com. “We’re still having discussion — and not just with one club.”

Trade talks between the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers for Jonathan Papelbon, which were reported a few weeks back, were thought to be dead however there has been rumblings out of Milwaukee suggesting the deal wasn’t on life support as suggested.

Most of the problems associated with trading Papelbon center around his extremely large contract and Philadelphia’s desire to obtain multiple high-level prospects in return. Add in his hefty no-trade clause and finding a willing trade partner has proven to be difficult.

For now it appears as if the Phillies are continuing their pursuit to trade their talented though sometimes problemataic closer.
