Phillies Lose To Division II College Baseball Team

Baseball Grass At Phillies Stadium

Every year Major League Baseball teams take on some odd competition during spring training. Sometimes it’s nothing more than a split squad game, other times it’s a tilt against a local community college or even high school squad.

Case in point, the Philadelphia Phillies who recently hosted the University of Tampa, a Division II college baseball team.

And of course, the Phillies destroyed the…wait, Philadelphia lost?!

“Well, you know,” Sandberg said, asked if it was embarrassing to lose to a college team, “it kind of shows where we’re at as far as seeing players and workouts and seeing the work that needs to be done. I think it just emphasizes that.”

Yep, they lost and it wasn’t really close as the University of Tampa won 6-2. Of course, in fairness to the Phillies their top players like Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, Carlos Ruiz and more weren’t on the field and Philadelphia’s roster was mostly made up of minor league talent.

The University of Tampa is no slouch either as they’re the top ranked DII baseball school in the country, but still that has to be a hefty shot to the pride of the Phillies who are going to be blasted for the loss moving forward.
