New York Mets Are Not Charging Players To Workout

New York Mets

You’d think the New York Mets would be more than happy if players on their roster like David Wright, Zack Wheeler, Noah Syndergaard and more wanted to report to the team practice facility in Port St. Lucie early before Spring Training.

Hell, they’d probably be jumping for joy at the notion, not charging them money. But that’s exactly what has happened, though, the New York Mets are attempting to distance themselves from the news and are suggesting they’re not charging any of their players money to workout.

So how did all of this come up? Well apparently strength and conditioning consultant Mike Barwis, star of the TV show “American Muscle,” which airs on Discovery Channel has been holding workouts for players within the organization. Only issue is players have been paying to take part, upwards of $4,000 dollars for those on the Major League roster and a $1,000 dollars for those within the minor league system.

When reached for comment by USA TODAY Sports, a Mets official reiterated that the workouts are “completely voluntary” and noted that Barwis pays rent for use of the facility in the offseason.

In short, the New York Mets are not charging their players for working out however it is a little odd to see them charging Brawis if he’s helping their franchise by working out players.
