For the first time in a while, the Chicago Cubs are playing winning baseball. That’s music to the ears of baseball fans in the Windy City who will have a new player to root for in the near future.
That’s because the Chicago Cubs signed veteran closer Rafael Soriano.
Soriano, who most recently pitched for the Washington Nationals, was out of baseball for the past few months as he attempted to find a new team.
Multiple baseball franchises were interested in the relief pitcher, but the Chicago Cubs appeared to be the most aggressive from the start and finally landed their man.
It’s not known what type of contract the Chicago Cubs gave Rafael Soriano, though it’s a minor league deal so whatever the case it won’t have much impact on their bottom line (not that such would really matter).
cubs are signing soriano to minor-league deal. @GDubCub on this.

The biggest question here will be if Rafael Soriano ends up becoming the Chicago Cubs closer. While he’s said he’s more than happy in a middle relief role, you’d have to assume the Cubs likely made the move with the idea of Soriano being thrown into the role later this Summer.
