MLB Rumors: Blue Jays Seeking Francisco Rodriguez Trade?

Toronto Blue Jays

Before the season started, the Toronto Blue Jays needed a closer and were linked to free agent fireman Francisco Rodriguez, better known as K-Rod.

Three months into the season, the Toronto Blue Jays still need a closer and have been linked to fireman Francisco Rodriguez.

According to the Toronto Sun, the Blue Jays have been scouting K-Rod recently and could attempt a trade for the Milwaukee Brewers closer at some point.

The Blue Jays have been watching Milwaukee Brewers closer Francisco Rodriguez.

While the emphasis may have shifted to a much-needed starter, with right-hander Aaron Sanchez on the disabled list (last), the Jays have made phone calls about Rodriguez, 33.

The right-hander is 0-2 with a 1.13 ERA is 13-for-13 in save opportunities. The Jays lead the American League in blown saves with 12.

Given Francisco Rodriguez’s age and rather friendly contract, it’s a move that makes sense for the Toronto Blue Jays considering K-Rod will not command a bunch of high level prospects. The Milwaukee Brewers don’t look to be going any place this season and they’d probably be more than happy to get some form of an asset for the closer, so a trade certainly  makes sense for both teams.

Toronto won’t be the only baseball team coveting K-Rod though, which could be the problem for the Blue Jays.
