Just a few days after trading ace Yovani Gallardo, the Milwaukee Brewers have made an addition to their starting rotation. No, it’s not Jordan Zimmermann of the Washington Nationals who the Brewers are said to have interest in, but rather Dontrelle Willis.
Yes, that Dontrelle Willis who once stared for the Miami Marlins (formerly Florida Marlins).
Nicknamed the “D-Train”, Willis has struggled since he was traded to the Detroit Tigers in 2008 and has essentially been out of the Majors since 2011 when he last pitched for the Cincinnati Reds. Now he’ll get an opportunity with the Milwaukee Brewers who signed the southpaw on Wednesday.
Dontrelle Willis has agreed on a minor league deal with #brewers. Includes invite to big league camp.

While some might laugh at the addition, it’s only a minor league deal meaning the Brewers can easily cut ties with the pitcher. More than that, Dontrelle Willis has changed some of his mechanics over the course of the past few seasons and multiple teams (including the San Francisco Giants) have given the left-hander an opportunity in their minor league system the past few years, though he hasn’t been able to crack an MLB rotation as of yet.
He’s unlikely to do so with the Brewers, but there’s no shame in buying a lotto ticket.
