Mets Angry At Bryce Harper Over Nationals Ring Comment

Bryce Harper

On paper, you aren’t going to find a team more stacked than the Washington Nationals. Their addition of Max Scherzer gives them a three-headed pitching rotation which also includes Stephen Strasburg and Jordan Zimmerman. Combined with their offense, a playoff birth seems very likely.

A World Series appearance and a ring? It’s possible, at least according to Bryce Harper who suggested he wanted to know where he ring was after the Nats signed Scherzer. That comment didn’t sit well with the New York Mets though as their fellow NL East rival was none too happy with the suggestion, especially pitcher Zack Wheeler.

“I guarantee you we all saw what Bryce Harper said,” Wheeler explained. “He said, ‘give me my ring… we’re going to make it hard for him to get that ring, I’ll guarantee you that.”

As for Bryce Harper’s comments which sparked the anger:

“To be able to have a guy like Scherzer come in? I just started laughing,” Harper said. “I was like, ‘Where’s my ring?’ You know what I mean? It’s stupid. It’s absolutely stupid how good our staff is.”

In defense of the Nationals and Bryce Harper, Wheeler has proven himself to be a bit of a talker as he previously took a shot at the San Francisco Giants, the organization who traded the pitcher to the New York Mets.

Still, it’s easy to see why Wheeler and the Mets would take offense.
