Los Angeles Dodgers interested in signing Joba Chamberlain

Yesterday we learned the Los Angeles Dodgers would likely kick the tires on both Francisco Rodriguez (K-Rod) and Rafael Soriano once they learned current closer Kenley Jansen would miss the next few months with a foot injury.

It made sense, but even the deep pocketed Dodgers have to be wary of their finances, especially considering they’re still involved in the Yoan Moncada rumors. Given that, it’s possible the Dodgers could be looking for a cheaper alternative to handle Jansen’s duties which is why Los Angeles is apparently interested in Joba Chamberlain.

Assuming the Dodgers believe Jansen will return to form once he gets back on the mound, Chamberlain may be their best option considering both Francisco Rodriguez and Rafael Soriano want to be closers. They also want to be paid like closers while Joba Chamberlain will likely command a much lower price tag.

In addition, Chamberlain will help improve the Dodgers middle relief once Jansen returns from injury as opposed to K-Rod or Soriano who will probably require at least a set-up role once they’re yanked out of the closer spot.

I've written on a lot of your favorite websites while I live in my mother's basement. If you only knew what a hard time I'm having holding these alligators down. Woo. | Twitter: @GuyHut | FB: @GuyHutSports
