Jason Heyward Would Re-Sign With St. Louis Cardinals

Jason Heyward

Although Jason Heyward has yet to play a single game for the St. Louis Cardinals, the former Atlanta Braves outfielder is willing to commit long-term. More than that, he’s apparently opening to discussing a contract extension even after the season begins if the two sides can’t come to an agreement beforehand.

“As this point, I don’t,” Heyward stated when questioned if he would have any reasons to halt discussion regarding his contract when the season kicks off. “They asked me to be here and I was traded into this situation, and it’s a good situation. For me, I just feel like I need to show up and do my job, kind of follow their lead with certain things.”

After a rough 2013 campaign, the 24-year-old has seemingly returning to form and looks primed to have a solid season with the St. Louis Cardinals. One thing they’ll be looking for however is more power as Jason Heyward, who clobbered 27 home runs two seasons ago only amassed 11 last season.

He may be best served waiting to sign a contract extension considering his numbers aren’t exactly eye popping, while the Cardinals may be hoping to lock him up on a “team friendly” deal hoping he’ll become the player so many expected after his impressive rookie season with the Braves.
