It’s been said that multiple teams have contract offers on the table for pitcher James Shields, though who exactly those teams are remain a bit of a question mark.
What we do know though is that two franchises previously linked to interest in Shields have seemingly decided to turn the page, including the Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals.
Earlier today it was said Boston was not one of the teams offering James Shields a contract and now his former team, Kansas City, has apparently not talked about re-signing their pitcher for some time.
From the Due Diligence Department: KC officials say they haven’t discussed James Shields for a while now. Focused on recouping draft pick.

One team who is in the mix though are the Miami Marlins, who for weeks have had some degree of varying interest in James Shields.
Not sure if they are the frontrunner or not, but can confirm #Marlins remain in talks for James Shields.

The only problem? According to those close to Shields, the 32-year-old prefers to pitch on the West Coast, possibly with the San Diego Padres as the pitcher lives just up the road from Petco Park.
The San Francisco Giants have also been linked to James Shields, though, that was earlier in the offseason and they too appear out on his services considering they’re nearing their payroll limit.
Should be interesting to see if the Marlins can pony up enough cash to lure James Shields away from his West Coast desires.
