The back-and-forth between James Shields and the San Diego Padres has seemingly come to an end, at least for now, as the former Kansas City Royals ace has been presented his final contract offer from the Friars in the latest round of James Shields rumors.
While multiple teams (though none have been named) are said to be engaged in bidding for Shields, the Padres have seemingly drawn a line in the sand and given James Shields a take it or leave it offer.
It’s an understandable stance as they need to either get Shields signed and ready for spring training or they need to move on and continue their pursuit of other pitchers, like Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies who’ve they’ve been engaged in trade talks for.
The Padres and Shields are not at an impasse….rather Shields has to decide if he wants to accept their last and final offer….#Padres

Shields, who resides in San Diego, appears very interested in pitching for the Friars and would obviously do very well at Petco Park. Given that it seems as if his agents are doing everything they can to squeeze out every last dollar available for the 33-year-old.
