James Shields Rumors: Detroit Tigers Not Interested

After losing Max Scherzer in free agency to the Washington Nationals, there have been rumors suggesting the Detroit Tigers could attempt to sign James Shields to replace their former (co?) ace. It’s a sentiment that makes sense considering Shield’s rapidly dropping price tag though general manager Dave Dombrowski doesn’t appear interested in bring the former Kansas City Royals pitcher to Motown.

Questioned about adding the pitching to the already solid Detroit Tigers starting pitching staff, Dombrowski suggested he’s happy with what the franchise currently has.

Asked if he was willing to comment or debunk the rumors about the possibility of signing Shields, Dombrowski replied: “I just did, didn’t I?”

Of course, if the Tigers really were interested in James Shields they obviously aren’t going to say anything to the general public as to not raise his price, though it does come across as if Dombrowski is being honest in his response.

A staff anchored by Justin Verlander and David Price isn’t the worst thing in the world to have and committing money to James Shields could impact their ability to bring back Price when he hits free agency.

Given that it’s understandable as to why the Detroit Tigers will likely pass on showing interest in James Shields.
