James Shields Rumors: Chicago Cubs Interested

James Shields

We’ve learned a lot about teams that aren’t in the James Shields sweepstakes today, though little about those who are.

The Miami Marlins were one of the few teams mentioned as a possible Shields suitor, along with the San Diego Padres, but they aren’t the only teams as the Chicago Cubs are said to be ‘kicking the tires‘ on signing the 33-year-old starting pitcher.

CSN’s David Kaplan is reporting that the Cubs are “kicking the tires” on free agent starting pitcher James Shields, who helped guide the Kansas City Royals to the World Series in 2014.

After signing Jon Lester earlier in free agency, bringing in James Shields would give the Chicago Cubs one of the best 1-2 punches in baseball and would certainly give them one of the best starting rotations in the National League.

There have been rumors suggesting Shields’ price tag has fallen, though, to what extent it is currently unknown.

Either way, he’d certainly be a mighty fine addition for the Cubs and would instantly improve their already reinforced starting pitching rotation.

If Chicago does sign James Shields, there is also a belief that fellow starting pitcher Travis Wood will likely be traded at some point during spring training.

I've written on a lot of your favorite websites while I live in my mother's basement. If you only knew what a hard time I'm having holding these alligators down. Woo. | Twitter: @GuyHut | FB: @GuyHutSports
