It appears the effort to make James Shields more desirable has backfired as on Monday afternoon, it was reported the free agent pitcher had heavy interest (and potentially contracts on the table) from at least six teams.
The Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals have already bowed out of the James Shields sweepstakes and it appears the St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers and Oakland A’s are doing the same.
Rumor is James Shields could sign this week. Don’t expect it to be Texas. Word is their intentions haven’t changed

Maybe that move will quiet Shields rumors? Probably not. How about this: #Cardinals still prefer giving Martinez shot vs. signing Shields.

While it would seem as if James Shield’s potential landing spots are drying up, there are still teams said to be in the mix for the pitcher. That includes the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres, who are just down the road from the pitcher’s Southern California home.
It’s still anybody’s guess where the 32-year-old former Kansas City Royals ace will sign, though his options continue to grow fewer by the hour.
