Ichiro Suzuki Offered One-Year Contract By Miami Marlins

Ichiro

A few days ago, news broke suggesting the Miami Marlins were interested in signing Ichiro Suzuki. It wasn’t known if the feeling was mutual, especially considering the veteran outfielder was looking for a starting gig.

He’s not likely to get that with the Marlins, though they’ve decided to offer him a contract regardless and feel rather optimistic that he’ll accept the one-year deal.

The Marlins have offered a one-year contract in the $2 million range to Ichiro and the Marlins remain optimistic, but not certain, that a deal will be struck.

According to the Miami Herald, Ichiro is open to the idea of playing in South Florida though still feels he could potentially earn a starting gig elsewhere. Given that, he’s not expected to make a deicsion on the Miami Marlins’ contract offer for a few days.

No longer the superstar he once was, Ichiro is still a very capable fourth outfielder and would be a solid addition to the Marlins bench for defensive replacements and spot starts. He’s also not that far away from 3,000 hits, one of the reasons the Marlins are said to have interest in bringing the former All-Star aboard.

Expect a decision from Ichiro Suzuki in the coming days.
