The San Francisco Giants’ starting pitching rotation may be getting a bit weaker as the World Champions might lose Ryan Vogelsong to the Houston Astros. That’s the word from Fox’s Ken Rosenthal who says Vogelsong and the ‘Stros are in serious contract discussions.

A former highly touted draft pick by the Giants, Ryan Vogelsong struggled during the early portion of his career before he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Things didn’t get any better for “Vogey” who eventually found himself out of Major League Baseball and playing abroad.
There were multiple times when the right-hander contemplated retirement, but he continued to push through before the Giants – ten years after originally trading him – gave him another chance. That’s when Ryan Vogelsong shined posting a 2.71 ERA in 28 starts.
Since then it’s been a slow decline for Vogelsong, who would not benefit from leaving one of baseball’s most cavernous parks for Minute Maid Field which tends to sometimes act as a launching pad. Still, if the price is right, it’s difficult to begrudge the Houston Astros if they’re able to bring Ryan Vogelsong aboard as he’s not only a solid arm but a fantastic clubhouse presence for the young players on the roster.
