Former Braves Star Andruw Jones Returning To MLB?

Andruw Jones

Could former Atlanta Braves star Andruw Jones be returning to Major League Baseball? Now 38-years-old, Jones has played the last few seasons in Japan where he’s done very well. But of course, playing abroad (even in Japan) isn’t comparable to playing in the MLB.

All that said, Jones says he plans to return to the league this season and his agent says at least two teams are vying to sign him.

After two seasons with Rakuten in Japan, where he hit 26 home runs with 94 RBIs (.845 OPS) and 24 homers with 71 RBIs (.820 OPS), with OBPs of .391 and .394, Jones will be returning to major league baseball. Agent Scott Boras claims there are at least two teams interested in Jones as a DH and/or righthanded platoon player.

A ten-time Gold Glove award winner, Andruw Jones was among the elite at his position during his prime. He however is well past that stage of his career, though as previously mentioned, was getting the job done in Japan.

It’s not known what teams are interested in Jones, though you have to assume it would be as a backup/bench player as it’s difficult to imagine any team giving the outfielder a starting job considering he’s been playing out of the country for two years now.

I've written on a lot of your favorite websites while I live in my mother's basement. If you only knew what a hard time I'm having holding these alligators down. Woo. | Twitter: @GuyHut | FB: @GuyHutSports
