Dodgers Rumors: Zack Greinke May Opt Out Of Contract?

Zack Greinke

It’s hard to imagine anybody leaving upwards of $77 million dollars on the table, though Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Zack Greinke might decide to do so.

That’s the belief of the New York Post who feels if Greinke has yet another solid season in Southern California, the right-hander will attempt to cash in come free agency.

Most likely to opt out: Zack Greinke. The Dodgers owe him $77 million from 2016-18, yet if his third season in Dodgers blue proves as fruitful as his first two, he’ll be back out there.

Essentially the line of reasoning is that Greienke probably isn’t ever going to find a better time to become a free agent than currently, again, assuming he has a solid season. He’ll never be a number one on the Dodgers staff thanks to Clayton Kershaw which already somewhat reduces his price tag. Add in what could possibly be three very solid seasons put together in a row and there’s really no better time than the present for Zack Greinke.

Keep in mind, opting out of his contract isn’t a suggestion that he’s planning or even wants to leave the Los Angeles Dodgers, but rather is just an attempt to better his financial future.
