Dioner Navarro has requested a trade from the Toronto Blue Jays.
Earlier this month a report surfaced suggesting the Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays engaged in a trade centered around catcher Dioner Navarro. Soon after that report was debunked and it was said such a deal was only talked about internally.
Whatever the case, the backstop has reported to spring training but is hoping the Toronto Blue Jays will trade him after the team signed Russell Martin during the offseason.
Navarro admitted he asked for a trade “right away” after the #BlueJays signed Martin.

Navarro also added that he’s “disappointed” that a trade hasn’t happened yet. Still hopes a deal will get done. #BlueJays

Dioner Navarro essentially suggested that he signed a two-year contract with the Toronto Blue Jays to catch on an every day basis. Now that they’ve decided to go another way, he wants to as well and it’s hard to blame him considering he was under the impression he was the Jays starting catcher.
Of course, Toronto was able to upgrade in Russell Martin and Navarro would be a nice backup to have, though considering the shortage of good catchers in baseball it’s likely the Jays will be able to get a solid return for the veteran backstop.
