Detroit Tigers’ Victor Martinez Suffers Torn Meniscus

Victor Martinez

There’s never a good time for an injury, but it’s heart breaking to learn of such just days before spring training is to begin. Alas, that’s exactly what is happening to Detroit Tigers fans as they’re learning former catcher turned designated hitter Victor Martinez suffered a torn mesniscus in his left knee and is likely to miss Opening Day.

Meniscus tears can be repaired in a couple ways, one of which would allow Victor Martinez to get back on the field sooner though would likely shorten the remainder of his career (which probably isn’t going to be that much longer either). Then there is an operation which would require more recovery time though would return Victor Martinez to full health with no issues down the road.

It’s not known which method will be used by Victor Martinez, though famed athletic surgeon Dr. James Andrews will be performing the surgery.

Martinez signed a four-year contract this past offseason so it’s unlikely the Detroit Tigers will rush him back. No timetable has been given for his return though it’s very doubtful he’ll be ready by Opening Day.

I've written on a lot of your favorite websites while I live in my mother's basement. If you only knew what a hard time I'm having holding these alligators down. Woo. | Twitter: @GuyHut | FB: @GuyHutSports
