The Detroit Tigers could have attempted to re-sign Max Scherzer this offseason. They could have attempted to sign some of the bigger free agents like James Shields. But they appear to be saving their money, likely in effort to sign David Price to a long-term contract extension. The biggest question though is if the southpaw would be willing to do such.
Apparently, the answer is yes as David Price says he is “absolutely” considering being a member of the Detroit Tigers for the foreseeable future.
Asked if he's considering a long-term extension with #Tigers, David Price replied with an emphatic "absolutely."

Why wouldn’t he want to be? The Detroit Tigers have been one of the American League’s best teams for a half decade now and despite Justin Verlander and Miguel Cabrera getting a little older, they still have plenty of good seasons left. Sure, 2014 was a bit of a disappointment but you aren’t going to find many teams with a better one-two punch atop their pitching rotation than the Detroit Tigers. That by itself should routinely keep Motown in the thick of a playoff birth, especially given their division.
When the time comes for David Price to sign the said extension, he’s certainly going to cash in though the Tigers will have the money to make him a hefty offer which he’ll be looking for and deserving of.
