Remember when Randy Johnson, then a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks, hit a bird while throwing a pitch against the San Francisco Giants in a spring training matchup? Well, it happened again, though this time it came off the bat of Detroit Tigers rookie catcher James McCann.

Justin Verlander‘s Detroit Tigers were taking on the Atlanta Braves when McCann stepped into the batter box at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista.

McCann swung and fouled a ball back to the protective screen which is where a bird was sitting at the time. Sadly the ball struck the bird, sending a mass of feathers flying into the air as can be seen in the video below.

According to MLive.com, the bird fell into the lap of a fan watching the game.

A foul ball off the bat of Detroit Tigers rookie catcher James McCann struck a bird in the first inning Friday afternoon in a spring exhibition game between the Tigers and the Atlanta Braves.  The bird was perched on protective netting behind home plate at Champion Stadium.

Shockingly, it was announced on the stadium speakers that the bird had survived the impact, which was pretty crazy considering how bad that looked.
