I imagine spring training is kind of like the first day of school for a lot of baseball players. You really don’t want to go, but you want to see your friends who you’ve missed over the summer. Plus, you have a bad ass new binder and some kick butt clothes you want to show off, right?
Apparently that’s how Danny Espinosa of the Washington Nationals felt, though, it wasn’t his binder or clothing he wanted to show off it was his new facial hair – a Fu Manchu.
Yep, the infielder went all out and was the talk of Washington Nationals camp thanks to his new look.
Danny Espinosa was one of the first position players in camp. His Fu Manchu has also reported. And it is glorious. pic.twitter.com/8K9EwJDQd6

There are some players (though few and far between) who can pull off such a look, though most need to either be huge bodies (like a Randy Johnson) or a pitcher (like, uh, Randy Johnson). A pint-sized infielder who looks like he’d added five pounds in facial hair with his Fu Manchu isn’t somebody who fits the bill.
Still, I have to give Danny Espinosa some credit – it’s getting a lot of attention and obviously that’s what he was going for. Hopefully he keeps it through the season, just for laughs.
