If the Philadelphia Phillies are to trade pitcher Cole Hamels, they’re going to do so by nabbing some high quality talent in return. At least, that’s their goal as they’ve reportedly been involved in trade talks with the Boston Red Sox and are said to be requesting Blake Swihart in return.
Only problem? Not only is Swihart the best talent in the Boston Red Sox’s system, he’s also arguably the best catching prospect in the game.
Needless to say the Phillies are aiming high in their efforts to trade Cole Hamels, though it doesn’t sound as if the Red Sox are biting – at least not at that cost.
The #Phillies want prized catching prospect Blake Swihart from #Redsox in deal for Hamels. The Red Sox continue to refuse. #stalemate

While adding Cole Hamels to their rotation would be a fantastic move on the part of the Boston Red Sox, it’s understandable as to why they would balk with Blake Swinhart as the main trade piece. That’s not to say they won’t change their mind down the road or that the two teams won’t be able to find a package worthy of consideration without Swihart involved, though for now it doesn’t appear that a trade between the two will be taking place.
