Cole Hamels Rumors: Phillies Say Trade Unlikely

Cole Hamels

Although Cole Hamels has been linked to the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres and more, the Philadelphia Phillies don’t believe anybody has the right pieces to acquire the southpaw in a trade. That’s why they plan on keeping him in the City of Brotherly Love.

That’s the word from Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro who says he believes Cole Hamels will remain in a Philadelphia uniform for the upcoming season.

“I think Cole Hamels is going to be in our uniform, frankly,” Amaro stated before a winter banquet hosted by the Phillies’ double A affiliate in Reading. “I don’t really foresee him being moved. It is possible because we’re literally keeping our minds and eyes and ears open on every player that we have on our roster.”

Of course, you can’t take any GM comment without a grain of salt as Amaro isn’t going to come out and suggest he’s trying to rid himself of Cole Hamels. All that said, he did hint that if he was to discuss a Hamels trade he’d need an incredibly huge return considering he and the Phillies view Hamels as one of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball.

For now it sounds as if Cole Hamels is staying put, much to the disappointment of hungry opposing fans.
