The San Diego Padres look little like they did in 2014 after acquiring both Justin Upton and Wil Myers, now they’re attempting to add a third star into the mix – Cole Hamels of the Philadelphia Phillies.
It’s been rumored the Padres have been speaking to the Phillies for some time in attempt to trade for the ace pitcher and according to FOX Sports, the two remain ‘in touch’ regarding a potential deal.
Preller clearly not done trying to upgrade. Also in touch with #Phillies on Hamels, though some doubt #Padres have enough to make deal.

Hamels is of course from the San Diego area and would reportedly be more than open to playing in Southern California. It’s not every day a player, especially one of Cole Hamels’ talent level wants to play for a team like the Padres, so it’s understandable as to why the Friars would be so open to chasing the southpaw.
The biggest issue is likely to be money owed to Cole Hamels and how much talent San Diego will need to give Philadelphia in a deal.
It’s previously been said the Phillies are seeking three high level prospects in exchange for Cole Hamels, in addition to the acquiring team paying the starters full salary, though those demands seem rather over the top and few have shown interest at that price tag.
