Cole Hamels Rumors: Padres Made Aggressive Trade Offer

Cole Hamels rumors: Padres made an aggressive trade offer for the Phillies ace pitcher.

Before the San Diego Padres agreed on a contract with pitcher James Shields, they did what they could to trade for Philadelphia Phillies ace Cole Hamels.

A Southern California native, Hamels hasn’t exactly hidden his desire to pitch closer to home and most would say the Padres had enough pieces to make a trade work. But the Philadelphia Phillies apparently didn’t like the Padres’ ‘aggressive’ trade offer as noted by Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

The Padres wanted Hamels. The Padres made an aggressive offer for Hamels. The Padres are one of nine teams that can acquire Hamels without his permission.

It’s not known what or who the Padres offered the Phillies for Cole Hamels, though whatever it was apparently wasn’t enough for Philadelphia. Of course, that’s proven to be par for the course lately with Cole Hamels rumors as Phillies GM Ruben Amero reportedly needs to ‘win’ a deal for him to trade his ace.

As for the San Diego Padres, they of course ended up with James Shields and are likely pretty happy with that, though probably would have preferred nabbing Hamels given his younger age. On the plus side, they didn’t have to mortgage a significant chunk of their minor league system to bring Shields in (sans the draft pick) so perhaps it all worked out in the end.
