Chicago Cubs GM Calls Out Kris Bryant’s Agent Scott Boras

Kris Bryant

Say what you will about baseball power agent Scott Boras, he gets things done. Case in point, he has apparently ruffled the feathers of Chicago Cubs general manager Theo Epstein after Boras unleashed a tirade on the Cubs about the likelihood of Kris Bryant opening the season in the minor leagues.

As has previously been mentioned, the Cubs contractually stand to gain an extra year of Kris Bryant if they wait a few weeks to call the power hitter up. It’s an obvious decision from a financial standpoint, but one that Boras nor Bryant are overly thrilled with considering he’s done PLENTY enough to make the Opening Day roster.

Still, Epstein and the Chicago Cubs are none too happy with Boras and let it be known through the media.

I have a lot of respect for Scott and he, by and large, does a great job for his clients,” Epstein said. “The only part about it that bothers me is that he certainly could have picked up the phone before going to the national media about this. He never once called me and asked me if Kris would make the team or anything about his situation. So just from a personal level and professional respect, that would have been something that I would have done if I was in his shoes.”

The biggest question – will Scott Boras’ rant get his client on the Opening Day roster? Theo Epstein wouldn’t go that far, though he didn’t dismiss the notion of Kris Bryant making the team out of spring training.
