Baltimore Orioles To Sign Former MLB All-Star Everth Cabrera

Everth Cabrera

The Baltimore Orioles are expected to sign Everth Cabrera.

A few years back, the San Diego Padres believed they had a franchise superstar in Everth Cabrera. And while there was some very solid defense at times along with lighting fast speed on the bases, Cabrera fizzled out for the Friars and eventually was let go after continued troubles with the law.

Still, the infielder has an MLB All-Star appearance under his baseball belt and looks close to signing a contract with the Baltimore Orioles.

Considering the price there really isn’t much risk in the move for the Orioles who are likely to bring Everth Cabrera off the bench. No, he’s not a true All-Star talent and isn’t exactly much of a threat with the stick, but he can get on base somewhat efficiently and can play solid defense in the field. Given that, you can’t really ask for much more out of a bench player who can change the game with his speed off the pine.

With J.J. Hardy locked in at shortstop, it’s likely Everth Cabrera will battle both Jonathan Schoop and Ryan Flaherty for playing time at second base for the Orioles.
