Just a day after rumors broke suggesting the Atlanta Braves were considering signing outfielder Jonny Gomes, the team confirmed the noise by agreeing on a one-year contract with the slugger.
That’s the word from Yahoo’s Tim Brown who says the deal will also include a vesting option.

Gomes isn’t much of an every day player, though he notoriously destroys left-handed pitching and will likely serve as a platoon player in left field with Zoilo Almonte. It’s by no stretch a blockbuster move, though one that should solidify the Atlanta bench will giving them some thunder off the pine.
The Braves apparently beat out the Chicago Cubs for Jonny Gomes’ services as the two teams had been vying to sign the slugger for the past week or so.
A native of the Bay Area, Gomes most recently played for the Oakland A’s though never appeared to be comfortable playing for his hometown team as he had an ugly .234/.327/.330 slash between Oakland and the Boston Red Sox.
Expect Almonte to get the vast majority of the starts with Gomes handling most left-handed arms.
